Maintaining is still a win. just a smaller one
The nature of your body is to adapt to the level of imposed demands. The imposed demands of the modern worlds are convenience, sedentariness, and practically zero occasions of maximal exertion. With food delivery, streaming, and work from home, we’re literally about 1 step away from being those potato people from Wall-E. But not like a cute CGI one, a real depressing one.
In our modern world, if you have no self imposed exercise or dietary habits, you’re not going to stay as you are. You’re going to slowly morph into a Wall-E potato. Unfortunately, our health and fitness is like a slow treadmill, you must be actively moving at least a bit to stay in the same place.
A common complaint that I see in the online fitness space is how hard it is to lose small amounts of weight, or simply maintain their weight. Most of the time I think this is due to inefficient diets and workout routines. Even so, to maintain your health and shape is a wonderful thing. If you’re not maintaining, you’re slowly being dragged into a place that you don’t want to be, unhealthy, weak and frail compared to your current self, no matter what that is.
Sure, life is no fun if you're static and stuck in the same place. But treading water is surely better than slowly drowning. If you can maintain your health and fitness while other things take priority, you’re going to be well ahead of where you could have been.
